Michigan-Made World Wanderer
I’m Taylor Keen (Keen Traveling) and I was born and raised in Michigan, USA but have lived in Germany since 2019. For those not familiar with Michigan, it’s the state that looks like a mitten with the lakes surrounding it. Growing up I did my fair share of traveling throughout the Midwest, East Coast, South, and a few trips out West and over the border to Canada (an hour from my home) but not much international travel.
How did I go from traveling domestically with family and friends to traveling internationally alone? Good question! It all started in 2014 while watching HGTV one day about international living/traveling and I just started to Google. I’ve always loved adventure and change and what better way to experience that than to travel? I’d also been learning Spanish since 2007 and had fallen in love with the language and cultures so I knew I wanted to go to a Spanish-speaking country. After doing some research I came across The Travelling Spanish Classroom which would allow me to not only travel throughout Costa Rica and Panama but also learn Spanish. Fast-forward to the summer of 2015 and I was off on my first international solo trip. Towards the end of my trip and upon returning home I discovered that I caught a bug…the “travel bug”. With the bug still in me a year later, in the summer of 2016, I began the trip of a lifetime as a volunteer at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and visiting 15 countries while traveling the world for five months.
